About The Role Karya is seeking a talented Visual & Motion Designer to join our remote team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in visual design, typography, composition, and information hierarchy, with a focus on translating static ideas into clear, engaging motion content. This role emphasizes using motion as a tool to enhance understanding and storytelling, particularly for instructional and branding purposes. The successful candidate will work within the Storytelling Team, collaborating closely with Product Design, Instructional Design, and Brand teams to create impactful visual narratives. Your work will primarily focus on designing motion-led learning content tailored for rural, multilingual, and first-time smartphone users, as well as developing visual stories and explainer videos for partners, funders, and public-facing communications. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference by crafting accessible, easy-to-understand visual content that bridges digital literacy gaps and supports inclusive education and communication. Qualifications

• 1-3 years of experience in graphic design with a focus on motion design
• Strong understanding of layout, visual hierarchy, typography, and iconography
• Experience in storyboarding, information design, and visual storytelling
• Proficiency in After Effects as the primary motion design tool
• Knowledge of design tools such as Illustrator, Figma, or Canva
• Basic editing skills in Premiere Pro
• Familiarity with lightweight animation formats like Lottie and simple transitions
• Ability to simplify complex ideas visually before animation
• Curiosity about visual learning, cognitive processes, and user engagement

Responsibilities

• Design storyboards, frames, and visual systems to guide motion content creation
• Create motion-first learning materials, including static + audio videos, simple animations, voiceover explainers, and walkthroughs
• Translate scripts and concepts into clear visual sequences using layout, iconography, typography, and motion
• Develop reusable motion templates and systems aligned with Karya’s brand identity
• Collaborate with content writers, instructional designers, and translators to ensure accessibility and clarity
• Work closely with product and learning teams to ensure content meets user needs
• Coordinate with design and branding teams to maintain visual consistency across assets
• Iterate designs rapidly, starting with low-fidelity prototypes and refining through testing and feedback
• Prioritize clarity in design, especially for audiences with low literacy or first-time digital users
