Remote jobs that allow employees to work from anywhere are rare, but a new FlexJobs report shows the best companies and careers for 2026.
Looking for remote jobs that will let you work from anywhere in the world, so that you can travel full time, move abroad, or simply work from home without career constraints? FlexJobs has released its annual 2026 Work-From-Anywhere Jobs Report, spotlighting the employers, industries, and job titles offering remote work with true location independence.
Since 2019, tracking has shown how companies are embracing work-from-anywhere roles—remote jobs that allow employees to work fully remotely from anywhere in the world, without geographic restrictions. And while demand for these roles remains sky-high, FlexJobs’ latest data makes one thing clear: Work-from-anywhere jobs are still exceptionally hard to find.
Why Are Work-From-Anywhere Jobs So Competitive?
“Work-from-anywhere jobs continue to be incredibly popular targets for job seekers, but remain relatively rare in terms of availability,” Keith Spencer, career expert at FlexJobs, explained. “While the number of true location-independent roles is growing, they still make up less than 5% of the overall remote job market, which makes these in-demand positions highly competitive.”
That scarcity is precisely why FlexJobs shifted its approach from last year, when the report ranked the top 30 companies. Instead, the 2026 report focuses on a top 10 list, paired with deeper insights into the career categories and titles most likely to support location-independent work.
“The work-from-anywhere market has become more concentrated, with a smaller group of employers consistently offering true work-from-anywhere opportunities,” says Spencer. “With this year’s report, the goal was to help job seekers cut through the noise and focus on where these roles are continually being created, as well as the skills and job functions most likely to support location-independent work moving forward.”
Why Do These Remote Jobs Still Command So Much Attention?
Despite their limited availability, work-from-anywhere roles continue to attract enormous interest from job seekers, and for good reason.
“Work-from-anywhere jobs command so much attention because they represent the highest level of flexibility available,” says Spencer. “Rather than simply working remotely, these roles remove geographic limits entirely, offering true location independence and freedom of mobility.”
The upside of a remote job like this? “That opens the door to possibilities like traveling while working, relocating to an area with a lower cost-of-living or a higher quality-of-life, and having full control over where you build your life.”
It’s also where many job seekers get tripped up.
“The biggest misconception is that a fully remote role is automatically a work-from-anywhere job,” says Spencer. “In reality, the vast majority of remote roles still have location requirements or geographic restrictions, often due to tax and labor laws.”
Employers may also require candidates to live in a specific time zone or within certain proximity to their headquarters or client base. “True work-from-anywhere jobs are far more limited than many people realize,” says Spencer.
The Top Company For Work-From-Anywhere Jobs In 2026
This year, Invisible Technologies takes the top spot on the FlexJobs list, jumping up from the No. 2 spot on the 2025 list and the No. 6 spot in 2024. Founded in 2015 to help overworked, stressed-out people, Invisible Technologies offers custom operations support to scaling small and midsized businesses.
Invisible Technologies earned the top spot by posting the highest volume of true work-from-anywhere jobs in the FlexJobs database over the past year, signaling a long-term commitment to location-independent hiring, not just remote work in name only.
“Invisible Technologies stands out because they consistently hire for true work-from-anywhere roles, not just fully remote positions,” says Spencer. “Much of that hiring spans operations, account management, computer & IT and consulting, which are all fields that naturally lend themselves to globally distributed, remote-first work.”
Other companies on the 2026 Top 10 list include Wikimedia Foundation (which topped the list in 2023 and 2022), Canonical (an efficiency expert), Superside, Xapo Bank (which provides services related to Bitcoin), CloudLinux (delivering design at scale to enterprise teams) and several digital-first employers built to support teams spread across the globe.
The Fields Most Likely To Support Work-From-Anywhere Remote Jobs
In its 2026 report, FlexJobs looks at the fields where you’re most likely to find a work-from-anywhere remote job. The analysis shows that these roles tend to cluster in fields where work is digital, outcome-driven and easily done asynchronously.
According to FlexJobs, the opportunities that do exist tend to be concentrated in digital-first fields like computer & IT, project management and marketing, and are most often offered by companies built to support globally distributed teams. “So, while work-from-anywhere roles do exist and continue to expand, they require a strategic, informed approach to land,” says Spencer.
Marketing, communications, and content roles also remain strong contenders.
“Marketing, communications and content roles are especially compatible with location independence because they tend to be project-based and outcome-focused, with success measured by results rather than where or when the work happens,” says Spencer. These roles also lend themselves to asynchronous collaboration, written communication and flexible workflows, making it easier for teams to operate effectively across time zones.”
AI’s Growing Role In Work-From-Anywhere Careers
Another notable trend in the 2026 report: the rise of AI-driven roles.
“AI has led to the growth of new digital-first jobs that are naturally well suited for work-from-anywhere environments,” says Spencer. “As automation is applied to more routine, hands-on tasks, companies are creating roles that focus on strategy, oversight and human judgment. Because these jobs are largely location-independent and centered on outcomes rather than physical presence, they’re more likely to be offered in a remote capacity or even as true work-from-anywhere roles.”
In-demand work-from-anywhere job titles this year include software engineer, AI engineer, data analyst, product manager, content writer, project manager, and social media manager.
How To Compete For These Coveted Roles
With demand continuing to outpace supply, landing a work-from-anywhere job requires a more strategic approach.
“Competition can be fierce, with far more applicants than available opportunities,” Spencer says. As a result, job seekers need to be intentional, focusing on the employers and job functions most likely to offer location-independent work, and positioning themselves as strong fits for outcome-driven, remote-first roles.
The bottom line: Work-from-anywhere jobs do exist and they are expanding, but they remain rare, competitive and concentrated among a specific group of employers and roles. For job seekers willing to target their search carefully, the payoff can be life-changing.
