About the company & role
This company has ambitious plans within the electric vehicle industry, with a focus on the design and manufacture of clean energy vehicles as well as the development of charging solutions. The newly appointed General Counsel requires some immediate support from either a mid-level or experienced in-house counsel to help bring the legal workload under control as well as helping to implement good processes and procedures for the wider business.
Reporting directly into, and working closely with, the General Counsel, the role will support on the drafting, negotiation and review of new contracts as well as the analysis of existing contracts, customer correspondence (b2b) as well as assessing the company position in relation to any contractual disputes. It may also support on some Corporate Governance work (in a listed environment) as well as assisting with other legal areas as per business need; (this may include areas such as Data Privacy, Employment, Intellectual Property, Compliance etc.)
It is envisaged the workload will require around 6 months and the company intends to offer the stability of a 6 month fixed term contract.
What’s on offer?
This is an ideal role for an Ethics & Compliance Manager (for guidance purposes only, likely a minimum of 6/7 PQE) who would like to gain experience in a growing sector, in a paced environment to further develop their commercial and legal skillset. This is also an opportunity to work with an experienced General Counsel helping to reshape the in-house legal function.
Significant flexibility is afforded to the role and we can consider candidates wanting to work on a part time basis (ideally 3/4 days) and the position can be undertaken entirely remotely from anywhere in the Netherlands (you will be supported closely by the General Counsel to ensure you have the right tools and information at your disposal to undertake the role effectively).
An initial budget of €80,000 - €90,000 (FTE) (€6,600 - €7,500/month) has been set, candidates above this range (especially those bringing more seniority wanting to work part time) are encouraged to apply to discuss a suitable salary rate.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s ethics and compliance program
- Monitor regulatory changes and ensure the organization remains compliant with applicable laws, including anti-bribery and corruption (e.g., FCPA, UK Bribery Act), data protection (e.g., GDPR), and other relevant regulations
- Conduct internal risk assessments and compliance audits
- Draft, update, and enforce internal policies and procedures related to ethics and compliance
- Design and deliver compliance training to employees across the business
- Serve as the primary contact for compliance-related questions and concerns
- Investigate ethics violations and support the resolution of compliance issues
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Legal, HR, Finance, Operations) to ensure alignment and implementation of compliance initiatives
- Prepare reports for senior leadership and external authorities as needed
- Support corporate governance activities, including whistleblower and reporting mechanisms
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business, or a related field
- 6+ years of experience in ethics, compliance, or a related legal function, ideally within an international or highly regulated environment
- Solid knowledge of compliance frameworks, anti-corruption laws, and regulatory standards
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate complex issues clearly and effectively
- High ethical standards and strong decision-making skills
- Fluency in English; additional languages (e.g., Dutch, German, French) are a plus
Due to the nature of the requirement, you will need to be available within 2-3 weeks to start this project and able to commit to a length of 6 months.
