Summary:
At Cengage, we build easy-to-use, quality learning solutions. Every day, Learning Managers share their knowledge and experience in learning science, pedagogy, content and curriculum development to achieve this pillar. In this role, we apply creativity, key quality standards, and insights about student and instructor needs to make best-in-class learning products. Using an agile and strategic approach, research-based insights, and instructional design methodologies, we design improvements, revisions, and additions to higher-education course materials and career-training curricula. Rather than implement these designs alone, we collaborate with a wide range of team members including content creators, researchers, subject matter experts, instructional designers, content managers, product managers, marketing managers, and more. This team of Learning Managers is curious, tenacious, dedicated to sharing ideas, and committed to questioning the status quo in learning.
What you’ll do here:
You will spend your time evaluating, planning, designing, and reviewing higher-education materials in assigned course areas to ensure our products meet our customers’ needs and Cengage’s strategic vision. You will:
- Partner with the ANZ Editorial Manager to set the strategic vision and direction for the Domestic VET/Uni disciplines in ANZ.
- Serve as the ANZ product-level learning design expert, and student and instructor advocate, in a cross-functional team of subject matter experts, instructional designers, and professionals in business strategy, marketing, content creation, and production.
- Work with Editorial Manager to review the Training Packages in VET as they are released to determine the updates needed to match curriculum needs.
- Evaluate existing adapted ANZ products against Cengage’s quality learning standards, research-based insights, and established protocols.
- Create product-specific design plans to address gaps and opportunities to improve learning, based on that evaluation.
- Collaborate on these plans with internal and external stakeholders, advocating for the best student and instructor experience in balance with business constraints and/or conflicting priorities.
- Identify and detail content requirements for project scoping and content creation planning.
- Evaluate existing content for potential re-use.
- Design and advocate for improvements in accessibility and inclusivity in all aspects of your solutions, using team guidelines and Cengage best practices.
- Collaborate with authors and team members throughout the product development process, seeking out varied perspectives and expertise.
- Collaboratively develop authoring guidelines to guide content creators for each element of assigned products.
- Thoroughly review and evaluate new learning objectives and content for pedagogical quality, using a shared set of metrics and referencing your authoring guidelines.
- Use shared tools, templates, and processes to take the product from hypothesis to implementation.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve learning design practices.
Knowledge, skills, and experience you’ll need here:
- Apply learning science and digital learning methodologies to assigned products.
- Cultivate innovation and quality in assigned products and course areas, looking for opportunities to improve the lives of our learners through quality learning design.
- Communicate optimally, through strong verbal and written skills, including audience-centric analysis, persuasion, influence, and documentation.
- Collaborate with peers using interpersonal savvy in problem-solving, making trade-offs, and building rapport.
- Handle complex, long-range projects with multiple partners in a dynamic remote-work environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, Excel, and file-sharing tools.
- 3-5 years of full-time work experience, preferably with experience in a corporate environment.
- Proven dedication to continuous professional improvement, learning, and a growth mindset.
Preferred skills and experience:
- Experience in working in the ANZ educational publishing market
- Educational or professional background in instructional design, learning design, or related field
- Teaching experience in higher ed or technical/career ed
- Experience in designing inclusive content for diverse audiences
