Escape the Ordinary

This Blue Monday (20 January), why not take the leap and apply for the job of a lifetime in Antarctica? The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is actively seeking individuals for various roles at its research stations, including carpenters, chefs, electricians, plumbers, boating officers, and plant operators. This is an extraordinary opportunity to contribute to vital scientific research while living in one of the most remote and stunning environments on Earth.

Unique Experiences Await

Working in Antarctica offers an experience like no other. Successful candidates will forge lifelong friendships and create unforgettable memories. As Eloise Saville, a carpenter at the Halley VI Research Station, shares, "This job is unlike anything I’ve ever done before. I scrape ice off wood, drive skidoos, and build things in one of the most extreme places on Earth. The people here are some of the most interesting and adventurous that I’ve met!"

Ben Norrish, Head of Vehicles, reflects on his time in Antarctica: "There’s something special about Antarctica that gets under your skin. That feeling of being in an amazing place is the same now as it was the first time I arrived. I encourage anyone curious about living on the ice to apply!"

Olivier Hubert, a Catering Manager, emphasizes the unique culinary challenges: "Being a chef in Antarctica is a very different experience. Meals are anchors to the day, and it’s a privilege to cook for a team that becomes your family. Plus, the views from the kitchen are epic!"
