The Shift from Remote to Office Work
My partner, who works at JP Morgan, and I have enjoyed a year of working from home together. However, with the recent RTO mandate from her employer, she's now required to return to the office.
Quality Time at Risk
We've cherished our shared time, which has allowed us to maintain a strong bond. The thought of losing our daily interactions and shared lunch breaks fills me with anxiety. Once she transitions to full-time office hours, the quality time we had will likely diminish significantly.
Our Travel Dreams in Jeopardy
Working from home also helped us plan our future, primarily centered around traveling the world together. We envisioned completing our workdays in different cities, exploring new places. This dream now feels threatened as her return to the office will limit our travel flexibility and shared experiences.
Facing Uncertainty
As my partner prepares to work four days a week in the office, I worry about the long-term implications for our relationship. The small joys of shared life, like cooking together or handling chores, will be replaced by the demands of a traditional office setting. Our future travel plans seem less attainable, and the dream we built together feels fragile.
While I believe we can adapt to these changes, the reality of returning to the office has cast a shadow over our aspirations. The world feels smaller, and our hopes seem more distant than ever.
