For over two decades, remote work has not just been my job setup—it's been my lifestyle. Starting in medical sales right out of college in 1999, I stumbled into what would become a career-defining choice without even knowing the term "remote work.
The flexibility was unparalleled. No commutes meant extra hours in my day, and the ability to adjust my schedule meant I could attend school events or handle emergencies without the guilt of taking PTO.
Being Present for My Kids' Milestones
Remote work allowed me to be there for field trips, school fairs, and even those unexpected snow days. I didn't have to choose between being a dad and being an employee—I could excel at both.

The Lasting Benefits Beyond Parenting
Now, with my kids grown, the perks of a flexible schedule continue. Gym sessions between meetings, laundry during lunch breaks—balancing work and life feels effortless. This autonomy has kept me motivated and engaged in my career.
Remote work isn't for everyone, but for those who thrive in it, the benefits extend far beyond the professional sphere. It's a shame that recent return-to-office mandates are limiting these opportunities for others.
