A Unique Remote Experience
Chloe Hurst, 29, describes her experience working on the Calf of Man, one of the most remote jobs in the British Isles, akin to I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!. Located off the south coast of the Isle of Man, this paradise island is accessible only by boat and spans approximately 600 acres filled with diverse flora and fauna.

Daily Life on the Island
For nine months, Chloe lived and worked as an assistant estate warden, managing wildlife surveys, habitat management, and maintaining the farmhouse and hostel that features one shared bathroom. Despite the lack of comforts—showers only once a week and food delivered by boat—she found the experience rewarding.
Chloe reflects, “It’s like I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in a way,” emphasizing personal growth and adaptation.
Embracing Nature
With degrees in Environmental Science and Conservation, Chloe’s passion for adventure led her to this role. While volunteering, she helped care for various wildlife, including seals, dolphins, and numerous bird species, enhancing her appreciation for nature.

Challenges of Isolation
Living on the island presents challenges, such as limited access to supplies during bad weather, which can isolate the wardens for weeks. Chloe and her team had to prepare by stocking up on non-perishables and emergency rations.
Reflection on the Experience
Chloe describes her time on the Calf of Man as “profound”. She plans to explore new adventures but will always cherish her time on this beautiful island, hoping to create her own version of a simpler life in the future.
