Software Engineer – Part time

Join a tech education initiative focused on enhancing user collaboration by implementing a modern, real-time chat feature. This role centers on integrating a clean and reliable chatting system into an existing platform, enabling one-to-one and group conversations. The chat functionality will play a key role in supporting educational discussions and fostering a collaborative learning environment. You will be responsible for designing and deploying a maintainable solution that ensures chat history is securely stored and easily accessible. Deliverables

• Develop and integrate a real-time chat system supporting both private and group messaging.
• Ensure all chat messages are stored in a database for persistent chat history.
• Implement user authentication and access controls for chat features.
• Optimize the chat interface for a modern, clean user experience.
• Provide clear technical documentation for future maintenance and updates.
• Collaborate with project stakeholders to ensure the chat functionality aligns with educational objectives.

Requirements

• Proven experience building real-time chat applications using modern backend technologies (e.g., Node.js, Python, or similar).
• Proficiency with WebSockets or equivalent real-time communication protocols.
• Strong understanding of database design for storing chat messages and user data.
• Experience with authentication and user management systems.
• Ability to deliver clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
• Familiarity with UI/UX best practices for chat interfaces.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Availability for part-time, contract-based work.
• Prior experience in educational or collaborative platforms is a plus.
