Project overview
The project focuses on improving the ability of advanced AI systems to perform complex legal reasoning and realistic legal workflows.
The goal is to help develop an AI legal assistant capable of:
- Identifying legal issues and applying relevant rules accurately
- Interpreting statutes, regulations, and case law in complex contexts
- Drafting and reviewing legal documents with professional rigor
- Handling ambiguous or conflicting legal authorities
- Producing structured legal analysis similar to professional legal work product
This work directly contributes to the development of AI systems designed to assist legal professionals in real-world settings.
Scope of Work
Selected legal experts will design and evaluate realistic legal tasks reflecting professional legal workflows.
Examples of tasks may include:
- Drafting or reviewing legal documents such as contracts, pleadings, or memoranda
- Analyzing statutes, regulations, and case law
- Identifying risks, obligations, and legal issues in complex scenarios
- Evaluating AI-generated legal reasoning for accuracy and completeness
- Creating multi-step legal reasoning exercises that mirror real legal assignments
Tasks should reflect substantive legal work that would typically require several hours of professional analysis without AI assistance.
Who are we looking for?
We are seeking experienced legal professionals who regularly engage in analytical legal work such as document drafting, legal research, litigation support, or regulatory interpretation.
Candidates may come from a variety of legal backgrounds including:
- Litigation and dispute resolution
- Corporate or transactional law
- Regulatory or compliance law
- Healthcare or medical law
- Intellectual property law
- Government, policy, or regulatory advisory roles
- Legal academia or legal consulting
Minimum requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree
- Active or previously held license to practice law, or equivalent professional legal experience.
- Experience drafting or analyzing legal documents
- Ability to identify legal issues and risks in complex scenarios
Ideal experience
- Litigation practice involving motions, briefs, or discovery analysis
- Corporate or transactional practice involving contract drafting or negotiation
- Regulatory or compliance analysis involving statutes or administrative rules
- Experience producing legal memoranda or advisory analysis
- Familiarity with common legal research tools (CourtListener and PACER, etc.)
Timeline and Commitment
This project is an ongoing initiative with flexible participation.
Accepted contributors will:
- Receive onboarding instructions after acceptance
- Be expected to submit initial work within the first week
- Participate in periodic task submissions based on project needs
- All submissions are reviewed for quality before moving contributors into the main expert pool.
Compensation
You will be compensated $125/hour for approved submissions. Additional ad-hoc expert tasks (such as workflow review or evaluation work) may also be offered at the same hourly rate.
